It is a fascinating mechanism to link electronic circuitries without using any wires — lifting magnet 1 ton. So, what it does is it doesn't use wires, it uses these beats and tones and waves called electromagnetic waves. Such waves can carry energy and information from one place to another. This concept is borrowed from a field in science called electromagnetism, which studies the interaction and interdependence of electric fields and magnetic fields.
Electric cars, for example, can now be charged without plugging them in. The car merely parks above a specialized charging pad instead of being plugged in via a cord. This is the pad that transfers power to the car without wires using electromagnetic coupling. That also means if you park in the right place, the car can charge itself! This technology is also being used to charge upto mobile phones, wireless headphones, etc.
One more example of lifting magnets for cranes is a technology you may have heard of called near-field communication, or NFC. NFC is commonly used in contactless smart cards, such as credit cards and access control cards that allow you to enter buildings. As you wave a smartphone within close proximity to one of these cards, the electromagnetic field introduced by the phone sends a signal enabling the card to share information without touching it.
This is one of the cool things about electromagnetic coupling--much better than plain old wires. When this energy flows through a wire, it can dissipate as heat. As a result, not all energy is reaching the device that requires it. But we want to minimize these energy losses with electromagnetic coupling. It lets us transport electricity farther from its source without losing as much energy.

Wireless charging uses a similar approach where power is transferred wirelessly from charging pad through electromagnetic coupling to the end device. How far apart these two coils are will determine how much power can be transmitted. When they’re far apart, less power can be transferred. However, researchers and engineers are already working on various technologies that will help extend the distance range for wireless charging so that it can be used even more practically.

Although EM coupling is a potent technology, it does have some challenges. One big problem is interference from other electromagnetic sources. That can be particularly critical in wireless charging situations, where the electromagnetic field configuration generated by the charging pad can at times mess with the electronics of other devices in range. To solve this issue, new technologies based on advanced signal processing techniques are being developed by researchers. Technologies like phased arrays and beamforming make it possible to optimize signal over a distance of propagation.

There are two coils of wire in a transformer. The first coil is known as the primary coil and is connected to an alternating current (AC) power source. This is what creates an EM field around the coil. This time this field induces a current in the second coil, or secondary coil connected to the devices requiring power. By varying the number of loops in each coil we can either increase or decrease the voltage supplied to the load.
